Yellow fever in southeastern Senegal

According to TravelCare International, the World Health Organization was notified by the Ministry of Health in Senegal of three cases of yellow fever in Kedougou and Saraya health districts. These districts border Mali and Guinea Conakry.

A 25-year-old female was the first reported case. She had no history of having received the yellow fever vaccination. Yellow fever was confirmed on October 10, 2011. Two additional cases had been reported in August. All three cases have fully recovered.

In December 2007, a mass vaccination campaign results in nearly 95% population coverage in the districts that are now being affected. A campaign this month will target non-vaccinated individuals.
